As Bayelsa State gears up for the upcoming gubernatorial polls, the role of social media in contemporary political campaigns cannot be ignored. The establishment of an executive office for social media and appointment of special assistants by Governor Douye Diri’s administration highlights the importance attached to social media.

However, for a more effective political social media campaign, relying solely on Sen. Diri’s “Data Boys” may not be enough. Social media is a powerful tool that requires deep-rooted research, creation of compelling content, and veritable platforms that can communicate the message in unique styles and propagations by independent bloggers.

In order to achieve the desired objectives in terms of organization and professional thrust of the game, Gov. Diri should consider taking competent and favorable independent social media practitioners along in his scheme of things. These independent social media crooners would go the extra mile to support the government’s campaign efforts.

Therefore, we call on Gov. Diri to set up machinery in motion to take a wider look at political developments in the backdrop of social media. The integration of independent social media should be an integral part of his campaigns for the Governorship elections due to be conducted on November 11, 2023.

Social media is like gasoline, and its content is fire, making it essential to have a well-rounded approach to maximize its potential for campaign success.
