MESSAGE TO THE 47TH PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

I wish to congratulate the newly elected 47th President of the United States ( POTUS) President Donald Trump on his election victory and epoch making inauguration on the 20th of January 2025. From Nigeria, we watched with excitement and and also with utter amazement over the announcements, especially the executive order withdrawing US from the Paris Agreement. As an observer of the global policy negotiations on climate change, I am obliged to send this message to you and hope it gets to you soon.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

His Excellency Sir , President Donald Trump, your announcement to withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement again is a big deal. Essentially, it means the US is stepping back from its role in leading the global effort to reduce carbon emissions and transition to cleaner energy sources. This decision has significant implications, as it allows other countries to take the lead in the clean energy revolution, which is expected to be a massive market worth $2 trillion by 2035. By withdrawing, the US is not only putting its own citizens at greater risk of climate-related disasters, but also potentially leaving American workers and businesses behind in the transition to a more sustainable economy.

The Paris Agreement is an international accord aimed at mitigating climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and limiting global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. The US withdrawal from the agreement means it will no longer be bound by its commitments to reduce emissions, which could have serious consequences for the environment and the economy. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the US has withdrawn from the Paris Agreement – it previously withdrew in 2020, but rejoined in 2021 under the Biden administration.

This move is likely to have far-reaching outcomes , including the reducing US’s reputation as a global leader on climate issues and potentially undermining the effectiveness of the Paris Agreement as a whole. However, it’s also important to recognize that many American cities, states, and businesses are still committed to reducing their carbon footprint and transitioning to cleaner energy sources, regardless of the federal government’s stance on the issue. With the help of individuals and organizations, it’s possible to continue making progress towards a more sustainable future, even in the face of challenges like this one.

His Excellency Sir , I wish to use this medium to implore you to work with all USA allies and maintain the same Agreed Resolution and Conclusions on pressing global issues which has being ratified by all member States of the United Nations. The US cannot afford to take a back seat in the emerging energy transition and revolution. Africa needs technology transfer in the area of innovative technology, renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, metrology, and green and clean development mechanisms. The US can do all that for developing countries to help build their residence against climate induced stress.

Mr. President, as your protege since the days of the Aprentice , Kindly rescind your decision on this matter and allow the USA continue with the reparation pledge on Loss and Damage Funds which Africa will benefit the Most.
