Morris initially joined the PDP in 1999, remaining loyal to the party until the Governorship Primaries in 2010/2011, which produced Senator Henry Seriake Dickson as the candidate for the Gubernatorial election in 2012. Fueled by his ambition to contest the Bayelsa-State Gubernatorial election, Morris abruptly left the PDP and sought refuge in the ACN.
During his time in the ACN, Morris actively participated in the 2011 ACN-Kogi Township Rally in support of Abubakar Audu. The event was graced by all ACN Governors, including Elder Bisi Akande, who was the National Chairman of the party at the time. Notably, Nigeria’s current President, yet to be named, was also in attendance, further adding to the significance of the rally.
Despite his short stint in the ACN, Morris forged connections with influential figures such as Senator Dino Melaye, the master of ceremonies at the rally. However, his hopes of securing the Bayelsa-State Governorship Ticket were dashed, as he was advised to withdraw and instead deputize Barr. Kemela Okara, who had a stronger chance of winning the party’s primaries.
Disheartened by this turn of events, Morris swiftly changed his allegiance once more and joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Within a short period, he took over the party’s leadership in his state, eventually earning the party’s ticket for the Bayelsa Gubernatorial election. This turn of events did not go unnoticed, with Morris being invited to the APGA National Leadership in Abuja.

Despite his involvement with APGA, Morris found himself at the Imo State Government House, invited by former Governor Rochas Okorocha. The meeting involved discussions with Dr. Peter Obi, who was the Governor of Anambra State at the time. These encounters further solidified Morris’ journey through the complex web of Nigerian politics.
In 2013, Morris made yet another surprising move by returning to the PDP, betraying his previous party affiliation. Finally, in 2023, he became a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and actively supported Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s candidacy.
Maxwell Gabriel Morris’ journey in politics is a testament to the turbulent nature of Nigerian politics, where loyalty and party affiliations seem to shift with each passing moment. Only time will tell where his political journey will lead him next and how it will impact the ever-changing landscape.
