The National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Amb. (Dr.) Godknows Boladei Igali, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Arise Television journalist, Sommietochukwu Maduagwu, fondly known as Sommie.

In a condolence letter dated September 30, 2025, addressed to the Founder and Chairman of Arise Television, Dr. Nduka Obaigbena, Dr. Igali described the news of Sommie’s death as shocking and devastating. He noted that the loss transcends the media organization and the bereaved family, touching the entire nation that had come to admire her talent and promise.
Dr. Igali paid glowing tribute to the late broadcaster, describing her as an exceptional young woman—intelligent, bold, elegant and charismatic. According to him, her presence on screen over the past year brought poise, glamour and inspiration to viewers across Nigeria.
Offering heartfelt condolences to Dr. Obaigbena, the Arise Television family and Sommie’s relatives, he acknowledged that words may do little to lessen the sorrow but remain a necessary expression of solidarity and grief.
He further encouraged the bereaved to be consoled by the remarkable impact the young presenter made in her short but meaningful life. Drawing from scripture, he reminded them that life is not measured by duration but by impact, quoting 2 Corinthians 5:8: “To be absent from the body is to be with the Lord.”
Dr. Igali prayed for Sommie’s soul to rest in peace and urged all who mourn her to take solace in the legacy she leaves behind.
The late Sommietochukwu Maduagwu’s tragic passing has sparked national mourning, with tributes pouring in for a rising media star whose life was abruptly cut short by what Dr. Igali condemned as the actions of “wicked and unreasonable men.”
