The investigation follows the circulation of viral videos and reports on social media alleging that the young man was murdered, a development that has sparked widespread public interest and mixed reactions across Bayelsa State.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Yenagoa, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, fsi, had ordered an in-depth probe to unravel the facts surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served.
“The attention of the Bayelsa State Police Command has been drawn to viral videos circulating on social media platforms concerning the alleged murder of one Odutua Patrick Peresuodei, male, aged 24 years, of Amassoma Community. In view of the public concern generated by these reports, the Commissioner of Police has directed a full-scale investigation into the matter,” the statement read.
According to the Police, preliminary findings revealed that on January 15, 2026, at about 6:00pm, one Bodmas Prince Kemepade, of ICHC Centre, Tenacious Street, Edepie, Yenagoa, allegedly arrested and brought Peresuodei Ondutimi Abbah (now deceased), aged 24, and Peresuodei Destiny, aged 22, both of Amassoma, to the Police over an alleged threat-to-life post on Facebook.
The Command stated that the two men were brought to the station in the company of security personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
“Upon their arrival at the station, bruises were reportedly observed on the bodies of the suspects. Due to the seriousness of the allegation, investigation commenced immediately and statements were obtained,” DSP Mohammed said.

However, the Police noted that the deceased was not coherent while giving his statement and was subsequently taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and treatment.
“At the hospital, the attending doctor advised that the suspect be released to his relatives for proper medical attention. Consequently, the suspects were released to a family member, one Charles Edure,” the statement added.
The Police further disclosed that about two weeks after the release, reports emerged on social media alleging that Peresuodei Ondutimi Abbah died on January 30, 2026.
While distancing the Command from allegations of murder being circulated online, the Police confirmed that a manhunt has been launched for Bodmas Prince Kemepade and his alleged cohorts as part of ongoing investigations.
“The Command should not be dragged into allegations of murder on social media. Nevertheless, the Bayelsa State Police Command has intensified efforts to apprehend all persons connected to this case,” DSP Mohammed stated.
The Police appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators.

“Members of the public are urged to avoid speculation and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of hindering investigations or inflaming public tension. Individuals with useful and credible information are encouraged to assist the Police,” the statement said.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the rule of law, assuring residents that updates would be provided as investigations progress.
