In a sharp statement that has stirred reactions within the APC power structure, the cleric accused Bola Ahmed Tinubu of leveraging the controversial “Muslim-Muslim” ticket in 2023 as a strategic ploy to secure Northern votes, only to abandon the region afterward.
Sheikh Mansur cautioned that any cleric attempting to promote a similar religious narrative in the next election cycle would be ignored, stressing that the people have learned from past experiences. He alleged that the North was used as a means to attain power and subsequently neglected, adding that voters are now mobilising to hold the administration accountable at the ballot box.
The scholar, who commands considerable influence in the North-West, described the 2023 strategy as a calculated move that appealed to the religious sentiments of the people. With 2027 approaching, he emphasised that performance and integrity—not religious identity—will determine voter decisions, particularly among citizens dissatisfied with the current economic and security situation.
While the Presidency has yet to issue an official response to the cleric’s allegations, the development suggests growing strain within the religious-political alliance that contributed to the APC’s support base in the last election cycle.
