“Let us continue to keep this mutual understanding and relationship to foster sustainable growth and development of our state. But, of course, there must be checks and balances.
“On a nostalgic, historic note, let me say that this particular visit leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. I would have preferred since handing over in 2020 to you that I visited here on a happy occasion.
“We are all with you, particularly the bereaved Ewhrudjakpo family at this trying times. We pray God almighty to comfort His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, the widow, Mrs. Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, the children and the entire people of Bayelsa State. And may God grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.”
Governor Diri commended residents for turning out in large numbers to honour the late leader, stressing that true legacy lies not in longevity but in impact. According to him, Senator Lawrence Ewhrujakpo made a lasting impact on the state through his service and dedication.
“As governors, both of us have collaborated quietly to resolve the Soku oil well dispute that predated our administrations. Same way, we will work together as brother states to resolve any other issue that might arise. Rivers and Bayelsa cannot afford to be at loggerheads, especially as we are in the same party. So, we will continue to collaborate.
“We know that this is a great personal loss to you (governor), considering the working relationship between the two of you, which was the envy of all Nigeria. The images of the way you related with each other are all over in the media in Nigeria.”
Governor Douye Diri, on behalf of the Government and people of Bayelsa State, expresses heartfelt condolences to his wife, Her Excellency, Barr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, their children, the Ewhrudjakpo family, Ofoni Federated Community, His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson and all citizens of the State.
