An atmosphere of celebration and optimism enveloped Bayelsa State as President visited to commission four landmark projects delivered by Governor, marking what officials described as a defining moment in the state’s development journey.

Addressing dignitaries and residents during the historic occasion, Governor Diri warmly welcomed the President, describing him as “a friend of Bayelsa State” and a “fitting witness to history.” He noted that the large turnout of citizens reflected deep appreciation for the President’s visit despite his demanding schedule.
The governor underscored the significance of the newly inaugurated projects, particularly the state’s independent power initiative powered by 60-megawatt gas-fired turbines. He credited the Federal Government’s policy direction for enabling reforms in the power sector, which made the project possible.
“Your administration’s decisive policy interventions have paved the way for meaningful reforms, enabling us to deliver on our pledge of reliable, independent energy,” Diri stated, adding that the milestone was “a cause for thanksgiving and rejoicing.”
A major highlight of the event was the commissioning of the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, a long-awaited project that had remained unrealised for over six decades. The governor described its completion as a correction of historical neglect.
“This project has righted a historical injustice against one of Nigeria’s top oil-producing local government areas,” he said, noting that more than 60 communities across Southern Ijaw and parts of Brass Local Government Area would benefit from improved connectivity, reduced travel time, and lower transportation costs.
Diri also pointed to the virtual commissioning of the Bayelsa West segment of the Sagbama–Ekeremor–Agge road, describing it as the final leg of a strategic infrastructure network linking multiple riverine communities. According to him, the project would “integrate formerly marginalised settlements into the state economy” and stimulate long-term development.
The President further inaugurated a dualised road leading into the rapidly expanding New Yenagoa City, a project the governor said would enhance mobility, unlock economic opportunities, and support the vision of a modern capital.
“These projects constitute a coherent and strategic suite of investments anchored in the Assured Prosperity agenda of our government,” Diri said, listing other ongoing developments including a 30,000-seat international stadium and a nine-storey state secretariat.”
Highlighting future prospects, the governor emphasized the importance of the state’s senatorial road network, which stretches to the Atlantic coastline and positions Bayelsa as a key player in Nigeria’s emerging blue economy.
“With Bayelsa’s extensive coastal assets, we fully align with the Federal Government’s initiative to develop the blue economy,” he noted, citing global projections of the sector’s economic potential.
Governor Diri also commended the growing collaboration between the state and the Federal Government, acknowledging presidential support in granting waivers for critical infrastructure components and advancing key federal road projects.
“Your Excellency’s facilitation exemplifies that partnership in action,” he said, while appealing for further support on major road projects and reimbursement for completed phases funded by the state.
In a symbolic conclusion, the governor likened the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge to a broader vision of unity and cooperation.
“Just as it will ease the movement of goods, services and people, so too will our bridge of understanding and cooperation facilitate the exchange of ideas, opportunities and progress,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for honoring the state with his presence, expressing hope that the visit would mark the beginning of deeper collaboration and sustained development for Bayelsa and Nigeria at large.
