Born on October 1, 1958, Prof. Franklin Erepamo Osaisai is a nuclear engineer, energy scientist, and former Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), a position he held from April 2006 to April 2017.

He had his secondary education in Bayelsa State, where he obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in June 1977. He proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Chemistry from the School of Chemical Sciences in May 1981.

Following his undergraduate studies, he secured a graduate scholarship that took him to the University of California, where he obtained both a Master’s degree and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Nuclear Engineering between 1984 and 1987. He began his academic career at the University of California as a lecturer before returning to Nigeria to join the University of Port Harcourt, where he specialized in Nuclear Reactor Engineering.

Prof. Osaisai later rose to become the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), serving under the administration of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Over the years, he has also served in several professional organizations, contributing significantly to the development of nuclear science and energy policy in Nigeria.

While submitting his nomination form to contest for the position of President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Prof. Osaisai reaffirmed his commitment to purposeful and visionary leadership for the Ijaw nation. He noted that his aspiration is driven by a clear vision anchored on sustainable development, intellectual excellence, and an unwavering dedication to equity and justice within the Nigerian Federation.

“I am a candidate for the President of the INC. I believe the media has a key role to play in enlightening the people and helping to mobilize support for my candidacy. I am a patriotic Ijaw man, and I consider myself eminently qualified to lead the Ijaw nation at this critical point in our history,” he stated.

Addressing Ijaw people in the diaspora, the INC presidential hopeful reflected on the progress made by the Congress since its formal establishment in 1993, stressing the need for renewed leadership to consolidate those gains.

“My message to Ijaw people worldwide is that the INC has recorded significant progress over the years. This is the time for another phase of leadership. I am presenting myself to continue building the Congress and to ensure that, as an ethnic nationality, we effectively articulate our interests and secure the best possible outcomes for our people, especially given the vast resources in our land,” he said.

Prof. Osaisai also appealed directly to delegates and stakeholders for their support, expressing confidence in his ability to lead.

“At this point in time, I am a candidate, and I believe I can provide good leadership for the Ijaw nation. I humbly solicit your votes,” he added.

During a meeting with the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Council as part of his consultations with INC Western Zone delegates, Prof. Osaisai emphasized the vital role of traditional institutions in fostering unity and progress within the Ijaw nation.

“I have come to seek your royal blessings and guidance as I embark on this journey. The wisdom and support of our traditional institutions are essential in ensuring that the INC remains united and focused on the collective aspirations of our people,” he stated.
