The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri is among delegates currently attending the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) – Ocean Rise and Coastal Resilience Summit taking place in the city of Nice in France from June 7-13, 2025. The conference is being co-hosted by the governments of France and Costa Rica.

Writing on his verified Facebook page, Sen. Douye Diri said in furtherance of his administration’s avowed commitment to bring to global attention the environmental challenges people face in the Niger Delta region, and particularly in our state of Bayelsa, he was part of a panel discussion of the Ocean Rise and Coastal Resilience Summit.
This inaugural event precedes the UNOC, which is the third in the series and commences on June 9.
“In my presentation during the panel session themed: “Multi-Level Governance of Coastal Cities and Regions,” I emphasised the primacy of collaborative governance among global, national and sub-national stakeholders in order to save communities threatened by ocean rise and coastal erosion in our region and in Bayelsa.”

“The well-attended summit has attracted global stakeholders and policy makers and today’s session had in attendance a former United States Secretary of State and Special Envoy on Climate, Mr. John Kerry”, Sen. Douye Diri said.
Also present at the session were my brother-Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno and delegates from Lagos and Cross River states.
On the Bayelsa State Governor’s entourage were the Senator representing Kaduna South, Sunday Katung, Speaker of the Bayelsa House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, and President, Ijaw National Congress (INC), Prof. Benjamin Okaba.




Others were the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Faith Zibs-Godwin, a Director in the ministry, Mr. Wakedei Ere, and the Technical Adviser on International Development and Liaison, Mrs. Funkazi Koroye-Crooks.
