It is the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) week in New York, United States of America.

Global leaders from national and sub-national governments, top diplomats and policy makers as well as global lending organisations and business executives are all gathered in the country’s commercial capital city for various national presentations and events at the UN Headquarters.
On the sidelines of the UNGA and on the invitation of the President of Ghana, His Excellency Dr. John Mahama, I attended a programme on Tuesday evening tagged: “Ghana Reset,” which seeks to chart a new course in funding and support for not only the country’s health sector but across Africa through innovative financing models. The approach de-emphasises reliance on aids and loans in tackling the continent’s key developmental challenges.
The bespoke event had in attendance the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mai Motley, Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who is a co-sponsor of the initiative, former British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala among other leaders.

As part of my itinerary, I will also on Thursday be delivering a keynote address at the High Level Roundtable on the Gulf of Guinea. This is an event that is significant to Bayelsa State’s growth and economic advancement as our state, which borders the Atlantic Ocean on three flanks, makes deliberate inroad into tapping the enormous resources in our maritime domain.
Our administration will continue to explore the appropriate opportunities for our state’s economic growth, development and prosperity.
