The Bayelsa State Government has dismissed as unfounded reports alleging that it plans to relocate the College of Health Sciences of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the government described the rumour as a fabrication borne out of the “contorted imagination” of its purveyors.
The statement clarified that the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, had neither approved any committee recommendation proposing the relocation of the college nor was such a move under consideration by the government.
According to the government, the annual admission quotas for the Colleges of Health Sciences at both Niger Delta University (NDU) and Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) remain inadequate to meet the state’s healthcare manpower needs. It stressed that relocating the college would unnecessarily disrupt the academic programmes of the institutions and adversely affect the education of medical students.
The government, therefore, urged those spreading the unfounded claims to desist immediately in the interest of maintaining peace and stability in the state.
It also warned that it would not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law against individuals or groups found deliberately spreading falsehoods, particularly on social media platforms.
The Bayelsa State Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening tertiary education and expanding healthcare training in the state, urging the public to disregard the false reports and rely only on official information from government channels.
