The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has pledged its support for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The Executive Director of the NCSCN, Amb. Blessing Akinlosotu, made the pledge during a meeting with the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Commissioners, Director-General, and the Management Staff of the Commission. Amb. Akinlosotu stated that the NCSCN is committed to supporting the census because it is a critical tool for planning and development.
She emphasized that the census will provide data on the size, structure, and distribution of the population, which can be used to allocate resources, plan infrastructure, and develop policies.
Hon. Kwarra expressed his gratitude to the NCSCN for its support and assured that the Commission is working hard to ensure that the census is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
The NPC is a federal government agency responsible for conducting population and housing censuses in Nigeria. The NPC is also responsible for collecting and disseminating data on population and housing, as well as civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS).
The census is a constitutional requirement and is conducted every 10 years, with the last census conducted in 2006.
The NCSCN is a non-partisan organization that advocates for the rights of citizens and promotes good governance. It is a coalition of over 1,000 civil society organizations in Nigeria.
The partnership between the NCSCN and NPC is expected to mobilize the populace to cooperate and present themselves to be counted in the census. The success of the census is crucial for Nigeria’s development as it provides accurate data for planning and policymaking.
