Dr. Anyanate Kio has disclosed key resolutions reached at the valedictory session of the National Representative Council (NRC) of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), held at Ijaw House in Yenagoa.

Addressing journalists after the session, Dr. Kio stated that the council resolved to ensure that outcomes of the meeting are formally documented and made public for transparency and accountability.

“Part of what we resolved is that today’s meeting should not just end within the INC; there should be a publication to buttress the resolutions that have been taken,” he said.

A major highlight of the resolutions, according to him, was the endorsement of the April 13, 2026 INC National Executive Council elections as credible.

“We have resolved to give credibility to the April 13, 2026 elections based on our observations. The process was free, fair, and credible,” Dr. Kio affirmed.

The NRC also raised concerns over certain communications allegedly originating from the office of the INC National Secretary, describing them as lacking constitutional legitimacy.

“The tone of those letters is too personal and does not have constitutional backing. Any letter purported to have come from the office of the National Secretary that does not carry the voice of the President and the National Executive Council is not in tandem with the constitution,” he stated.

Dr. Kio further clarified constitutional provisions guiding the transition process within the INC, referencing the newly adopted 2026 constitution.

“By virtue of the new constitution adopted on March 6, 2026, the new Executive Council, upon inauguration, is expected to constitute a new NRC within 60 days in office. Any contrary move is against the current constitution,” he explained.

In recognition of the council’s performance, the NRC resolved to honour its members with certificates of participation and service.

“Because of the effective performance of members, all participating NRC members are qualified to receive certificates of performance and participation for the past four years,” he added.

On the forthcoming inauguration of the new INC National Executive Council, Dr. Kio acknowledged minor challenges but expressed optimism that they would be resolved through dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders.

“We are not unaware of some bottlenecks, but with humility and proper engagement with relevant stakeholders, including the Bayelsa State Government, the Commissioner for Ijaw National Affairs, and CITRE, we believe solutions will be found,” he said.

He emphasized the need for synergy and collective responsibility to ensure a smooth transition.

“If all parties synergise and continue to play fatherly roles, all issues can be addressed, and we can move forward as one united body,” Dr. Kio concluded.

The NRC’s resolutions are expected to shape the next phase of leadership and governance within the INC, reinforcing internal democracy and adherence to constitutional provisions.
