Speaking at a public forum, Arnold argued that what he described as “circumstantial evidence” was sufficient to justify a full investigation by U.S. authorities. He urged American officials to treat the matter with urgency and ensure what he termed proper accountability.
During his remarks, Arnold also made a number of broader claims and recommendations concerning Nigeria’s security challenges and political climate.
He alleged that the persistent violence in parts of the country amounts to genocide and called for what he described as a credible national census to properly document affected communities. He also advocated for an evidentiary briefing involving internally displaced persons, whom he described as potential witnesses capable of shedding light on the scale of the crisis.
Arnold further called for stronger action against armed groups operating across the country, urging authorities to identify and dismantle militant camps while prosecuting individuals accused of supporting or enabling violent attacks.
In addition, he demanded the release of Nnamdi Kanu and others he referred to as prisoners of conscience, insisting that those he believes are under threat should be considered for asylum protection by the United States and other international actors.
He also advocated greater international involvement in Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling for stronger safeguards to ensure the polls are free, fair, and credible.
Arnold’s comments have added to ongoing debates surrounding Nigeria’s security situation, international diplomacy, and the role foreign governments should play in addressing political and humanitarian concerns within the country.
