*Second Aircraft to Arrive Soon
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has presented a 2026-model fire-fighting truck to the Bayelsa International Airport.

Governor Diri presented the truck to the Managing Director of Bayelsa International Airport, Air Vice Marshal Nelson Calmday (retd), on Thursday at the Government House, Yenagoa.
He said the modern firefighting equipment was procured from Germany, describing it as one of the best state-of-the-art fire-fighting trucks available.
His words: “To those of us not technically inclined, we would have taken this to be some kind of war equipment. Seeing it from the ordinary eyes, you would not actually believe that it is a fire-fighting equipment. I know we have the best of the state-of-the-art fire-fighting truck.”
The governor expressed confidence that the new equipment would enhance firefighting and emergency-response operations at the airport.
Speaking after receiving the vehicle, Calmday said the airport had lacked an additional water tanker for firefighting operations, prompting a request to the governor, who, he said, went beyond what was requested by providing the modern fire truck.
He said the airport had two fire tenders, but one had become unserviceable, creating the need for an additional firefighting vehicle.
Calmday explained that the new equipment carries more firefighting foam and water than a conventional water tanker, making it more effective for emergency operations at the airport.
On the second state-owned aircraft, Calmday said its delivery had been delayed by the procurement and installation of its main landing gear.
He said once the installation was completed, the aircraft would be flown from Morocco to Nigeria.
According to him, the aircraft, an ATR 72-600 like the first one, would soon be delivered to Pioneer Airline, which operates the state-owned aircraft.
The Bayelsa State Government acquired two ATR 72-600 aircraft as part of efforts to commence and expand commercial air services from the Bayelsa International Airport. One of the aircraft had already arrived in the state and commenced operations under Pioneer Airline.
