The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended a party chieftain, Fubara Dagogo, over alleged gross misconduct and anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced by the leadership of Ward 4, New Layout, in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The suspension letter, dated March 16, was jointly signed by the ward chairman, Mr. Richard Ibani Benstowe, and the secretary, Donald Jumbo.

Reading the notice in a video sighted on social media, Benstowe said Dagogo’s actions contravened Article 21.2 (I), (II), and (VII) of the APC Constitution (2022, as amended).

He noted that Dagogo conducted himself in a manner that ridicules the party and violates its constitution.

Benstowe stated:
“Following the resolution of members and leaders of Ward 4, New Layout, at an emergency meeting held on March 16, 2026, you are hereby suspended indefinitely from the APC on the grounds of breach of the provisions of our party’s constitution.

“Your actions include anti-party activities and conduct capable of embarrassing the party, bringing it into ridicule and disrepute.

“You have flouted the rules, regulations, and decisions of the party, shown disobedience and negligence in carrying out lawful directives, and made unguarded statements demeaning party leaders within and outside the state.

“These actions contravene Article 21.2 (I), (II), and (VII) of the party’s constitution, as amended. Despite prior warnings to desist from acts capable of ridiculing the party, your recent conduct shows a refusal to abide by party decisions.

“Your suspension takes immediate effect, and we hereby urge the state secretary to endorse our resolution with the necessary actions.”

However, the suspension is reportedly linked to Dagogo’s lawsuit against the party over his exclusion from contesting the office of National Vice Chairman (South-South).

Dagogo had alleged that he was unfairly excluded from the contest at the party’s regional convention held on Wednesday, despite paying N5.1 million for the nomination form.

It was gathered that Dagogo, who had sought to halt the regional convention through legal action, refused to withdraw his case, a move believed to have contributed to his suspension.

Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Friday held a private meeting with key leaders of the APC from Rivers State.

The meeting reportedly took place at his residence in Abuja and was conducted behind closed doors.

The gathering is seen as part of early consultations ahead of the 2026 APC National Convention.

Although details remain sketchy, party sources said the discussions focused on strengthening internal party structures and building alliances.

Among those present was the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, who was recently re-elected.

Also in attendance were serving senators, members of the House of Representatives, and several influential party stakeholders from Rivers State.

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, attended alongside other lawmakers, indicating strong legislative backing for the political bloc aligned with the FCT Minister.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara was, however, absent from the meeting, raising fresh questions about the evolving political dynamics in the state.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, continues to play a central role in the state’s politics despite serving at the federal level.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been released on the outcome of the meeting, though more details are expected to emerge as party insiders provide further insight into the discussions.
