On May 26, Governor Diri inaugurated a reconciliation committee to address the divisions within the INC arising from the disputed presidential election of the congress.
The committee was chaired by Dr. Mathew Seiyefa, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Other members included former Rivers State Deputy Governor, Alabo Gabriel Toby; former Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Brodrick Bozimo; former INC President, Chief J.B. Fumudoh; former Nigerian Ambassador, Dr. Boladei Igali; and King Goddy Daminabo.
Former Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr. Kingsley Kuku, and Chief Erasmus Patrick headed the committee’s secretariat.
The committee submitted its report to Governor Diri on June 26, after engaging contestants in the INC presidential election, members of the electoral committee, the INC executive, leaders from various zones and other critical stakeholders.
The committee recommended measures aimed at making the INC more united, consultative and inclusive, with a stronger focus on advocacy for the Ijaw people.
The gathering of Ijaw leaders and INC stakeholders is expected to further the reconciliation process, reposition the foremost socio-cultural organisation of the Ijaw people and foster greater unity within the Ijaw nation.
