The Chairman of National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf, today, 21st December 2025, paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd.), and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd.), at their Hilltop residences in Minna, Niger State.

During the visit, Dr. Yusuf lauded General Babangida as one of Nigeria’s most visionary and committed leaders whose enduring contributions to national development, governance reforms, and institution-building continue to shape the nation’s progress.
He also extolled General Abdulsalami Abubakar for his exemplary statesmanship and historic role in facilitating Nigeria’s successful transition to democratic governance in 1999, describing him as “a symbol of national unity and moral leadership whose legacy continues to inspire generations.”
Speaking on the purpose of the visit, the NPC Chairman said it was aimed at seeking the elder statesmen’s guidance and counsel on key national issues, particularly those relating to population management, national planning, and sustainable development.

In their separate remarks, Generals Babangida and Abubakar commended the NPC Chairman and his team for their dedication to national service. They urged the Commission to remain steadfast in delivering accurate and credible population data, noting that reliable demographic information remains critical for effective planning, policy formulation, and sustainable national development.
The visit ended on a cordial note, characterized by warm exchanges, mutual respect, and a renewed commitment to the ideals of national service and unity.
