Activities to honour the legacies of the departed Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, kicked off on Tuesday with a variety of sporting events at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa.

The events included a novelty football match, athletics, tug-of-war contest by civil servants, traditional wrestling and para-wrestling bouts.
In the novelty football game, Bayelsa Queens played out a goalless draw against a selected side of the Bayelsa State All-Stars team.

South-South Governors Celebrate Fubara At 51
The South-South Governors Forum (SSGF) extends hearty felicitations to their Brother-Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on his 51st birthday.

Chairman of the regional governors body and Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, in a statement on Wednesday, described Governor Fubara as a humble servant of humanity and the people of Rivers State.
The statement noted Fubara’s exemplary leadership qualities that have endeared him to the Rivers people as well as his tireless effort and commitment to the peace and greater good of the state.

Reaffirming the long-standing position of the Ijaw people, the INC stressed that no part of Ijaw land or waterways has ever been, nor will ever be, part of the Biafra Republic. According to the Congress, such misrepresentation not only distorts historical and cultural realities but also risks creating unnecessary tension among ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta and beyond.
History and experience show that growing into adulthood without meaningful education, vocational skills, or a clear sense of purpose is daunting. Young people in such situations are more susceptible to negative influences and lost opportunities. Society has witnessed too many of these cases, where early intervention might have changed the outcome.
