The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has announced with deep shock and profound sadness the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, PhD, who passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

In a statement jointly issued by its Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee, PANDEF described the late deputy governor as a committed, disciplined, and passionate public servant whose devotion to duty earned him the nickname “the workaholic Deputy Governor.”
The socio-political group noted that Senator Ewhrudjakpo made remarkable contributions to the development of Bayelsa State, particularly during his tenure as Commissioner for Works, where he played a key role in advancing critical infrastructure across the state. His service at the national level as Senator representing Bayelsa West in the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was also highlighted as impactful and distinguished.
According to PANDEF, the late deputy governor served Bayelsa State and Nigeria with simplicity, candour, and unwavering patriotism, setting a standard of integrity and dedication worthy of emulation. The organisation stated that his legacy of service to humanity would continue to inspire present and future generations.
PANDEF extended its heartfelt condolences to the Governor of Bayelsa State, the state government, the people of Bayelsa State, the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, the Ofoni community in Sagbama Local Government Area, and the immediate family of the deceased.
As a mark of honour, PANDEF declared a three-day mourning period, directing all its branches nationwide to suspend official activities beginning Friday, December 12, 2025, in tribute to the late statesman.
The statement, signed by the National Chairman of PANDEF, Ambassador Dr Godknows Boladei Igali, OON, concluded with prayers for the peaceful repose of the soul of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” PANDEF prayed.
