Senator Diri, a pacifist and governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, has been engaging with various groups to ensure that the protest is peaceful or shelved completely to avoid destruction or loss of lives. The state cannot afford another bout of the February 13, 2020 insensitive and mindless destruction of assets belonging to the state and individuals. Intelligence reports already indicate that the same band of heartless individuals are being procured to again unleash mayhem on the state in the guise of a protest.
Under the prosperity administration of Governor Douye Diri, Bayelsa has become that choice destination where security of lives and property s secured, infrastructures that open the state to hidden wealth in the East and Central district of the State is being opened with massive infrastructural development across the three Senatorial Districts.
By referencing the “concerns” of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Sylva was trying to be smart by half. To be sure, there were no conflicts or inconsistencies in the judgement of the Appeal Court as the verdict was clear as crystal and consistent with the earlier judgement delivered by of the state election tribunal.
: “It (the appeal) is a distraction not only to me but also to the government and people of the state. You also know the character of the person involved. So this is not unexpected. However, it is victory for Bayelsa State and I do not think I want to waste my time calling on anybody to work with us. They already said they are going to the Supreme Court. So, we will meet them there.”
“Our people are having strange diseases as a result of gas flaring. According to the report of an oil and environmental commission empaneled by my predecessor, laboratory tests established that the oil and gas industry in the state has led to the death of a lot of people. The standards of operation in the Netherlands, in the United Kingdom and in other countries are different from what is obtainable in Nigeria”.

Governor Diri’s visit was a follow-up to an earlier meeting with Dangote in Nassau, The Bahamas, during the AFREXIM Bank annual meeting in June.
“The aim of those behind this act is to cause disaffection but the plot is dead on arrival as I’m not interested in such a Greek gift”.
It is just as ridiculous that Chief Sylva, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11, 2023 governorship poll in the state, could turn around to deny and feign ignorance of the dastardly killing of a young man; an act he instigated by his own action.
