An intellectual prince of the Ogboin Clan, Dr. Coronation Tokpo, has officially declared his intention to contest the Bayelsa State House of Assembly election after picking the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, thereby joining the race for Southern Ijaw Constituency 1.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with EMTV News shortly after submitting his forms, Dr. Tokpo urged the people of the Ogboin Kingdom to place their trust in his candidacy, assuring them of effective and purposeful representation.

“I urge my people to trust me. I will provide assured and effective representation in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly,” he said.

Outlining his legislative priorities, Tokpo emphasized his commitment to sponsoring laws and motions that would stimulate economic growth and development across the three core communities of Otuan, Amassoma, and Amatolo.

“I shall introduce laws and resolutions that will promote economic activities and engender development in Otuan, Amassoma, and Amatolo. By the grace of God, I will also use the legislative office to collaborate with the executive arm of government to attract meaningful projects and empower our people,” he stated.

The aspirant expressed concern over the lack of oil and gas production activities in Southern Ijaw Constituency 1, noting that the situation has contributed to youth disempowerment and economic exclusion in the area.

“In Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Constituency 1 remains the only constituency without oil and gas production. Our youths are therefore largely disempowered and alienated. Through legislation, I will work with the executive to establish an alternative economy for our people,” Tokpo added.

He further pledged to strengthen unity among the people of the constituency, stressing the need to rebuild communal bonds beyond political affiliations.

“I will work hard to reinvent the communal ties that bind us together in brotherhood. The people of Amatolo, Amassoma, and Otuan will build a stronger bond that transcends politics into lasting unity and shared prosperity. Together, we shall rewrite our social, economic, and politico-cultural realities,” he said.

Dr. Tokpo’s declaration has added momentum to the political landscape in Southern Ijaw Constituency 1, as stakeholders and constituents anticipate a contest shaped by issues of development, inclusion, and grassroots empowerment.
