In a strongly worded statement, Governor Fubara said no serious political leader ventures into a contest on a political terrain entirely controlled by opponents, stressing that leadership requires patience, timing, and strategic thinking.
According to him, his decision to step aside should not be mistaken for surrender, noting that his political struggle remains focused on liberating the people of Rivers State from what he described as “godfatherism,” political intimidation, and the entrenched culture of “man-know-man” politics.
The governor maintained that despite the political pressures and hostility he faced, he remained committed to peace, balance, and inclusive governance throughout his administration. He added that the people of Rivers State have witnessed his sacrifices and resilience in the face of intense political challenges.
Fubara further disclosed plans to align with a political platform committed to equity, justice, and national transformation, particularly one that has zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.
He revealed his intention to work alongside Peter Obi and what he described as millions of committed Nigerians under one of the country’s most organized political movements to “rescue and rebuild” the nation.
The Rivers governor expressed confidence that citizens of the state are eager for freedom, dignity, and accountable leadership, insisting that the frustrations arising from political control by powerful interests would eventually inspire a renewed commitment toward a better future.
Governor Fubara concluded by reaffirming his dedication to the people of Rivers State and offering prayers for peace and progress in the state.
