Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! He made this known during a meeting with party leaders and supporters in the state on Wednesday.
Dr. Otiotio stated that the removal of fuel subsidy was one of the campaign promises of the APC-led federal government, and it was necessary to implement it to bring about the needed development in Nigeria.
He also noted that the main opposition presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), also promised to remove the subsidy during their campaigns.
The Bayelsa APC Chairman acknowledged that the withdrawal of fuel subsidy would cause some hardship, but he expressed confidence in the ability of the Tinubu-led administration to implement measures that would cushion the effect of the shock.
He emphasized that the government was working on the implementation process to ensure that it was not too hard on the people.
Dr. Otiotio also called on all elected Senators and House of Representatives members on the platform of the APC to follow the directive of the Party and President Tinubu in electing the National Assembly leadership to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2015.
In conclusion, the Bayelsa APC Chairman’s support for the removal of fuel subsidy is in line with the position of the Tinubu-led administration.
While the decision has generated nationwide outrage, it is important to note that the subsidy had become unsustainable, and the government is working on implementing measures to cushion the effect of the withdrawal.
