The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development, Hon. Joanah Gigi, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Assured Prosperity Administration of Governor Douye Diri to implementing policies and programmes that improve the lives of women, children and other vulnerable groups across the state.

Hon. Gigi made this known when the leadership of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bayelsa State Chapter, paid her a courtesy visit to her office in Yenagoa.
She noted that the Ministry remains committed to the development of women and children, stressing that their welfare is fundamental to the growth, progress and overall advancement of any society.
The Commissioner assured the NAWOJ delegation that the proposals presented by the association would receive due consideration and, where necessary, be forwarded to Governor Douye Diri for appropriate action.
She commended NAWOJ for its sustained advocacy for the protection and development of women and children, while reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the association in advancing programmes that promote the protection, empowerment and welfare of women, children and other vulnerable persons.
Earlier, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Bayelsa State Chapter, Mrs. Grace Orumieyefagha, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the association and the Ministry, particularly in promoting the welfare and protection of women and children across the state.
Mrs. Orumieyefagha also presented key proposals, including the establishment of sick bays in public and private schools, as well as government-owned shelters to provide temporary care, protection and counselling for vulnerable children.
Also speaking, Mrs. Janet Twonmute and Mrs. Beatrice Sikpi advocated the strict enforcement of the Child Rights Act, the introduction of parental education programmes, and the establishment of skills acquisition and youth development centres to promote responsible parenting, youth empowerment and sustainable community development.
