The programme, which commenced on Tuesday at the LADOL Free Zone in Apapa, Lagos, will provide the beneficiaries with a combination of classroom instruction and practical industry exposure. The training will focus on specialised areas that support logistics, trade, procurement, and supply chain operations within the oil and gas sector.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Mr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the General Manager, Human Capacity Development, Ms. Alexis Emelle, described the initiative as more than a training programme, noting that it is a strategic investment in people and the future of Nigeria’s energy industry.
According to him, the programme reflects the Board’s commitment to developing a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the industry while creating opportunities for young Nigerians to excel in specialised fields.
He reminded the trainees that their selection came with significant responsibility and urged them to approach the programme with discipline, dedication, and a strong willingness to learn.
“The industry requires professionals who are dependable, adaptable, and solution-oriented. Every assignment, lesson, and practical experience should be viewed as an opportunity to build both competence and character,” he stated.
Representing SNEPCo, the Nigerian Content Manager, Mr. Obiajulu Onochie, described human capital development as a critical component of operational excellence.
He noted that the success of Nigerian Content initiatives is closely tied to the efforts of NCDMB and commended the Board for establishing itself as one of the most professional institutions driving capacity development in the sector.
Onochie further stated that SNEPCo remains committed to nurturing Nigerian talent and has implemented several training initiatives this year in areas such as cybersecurity, NEBOSH certification, blockchain architecture, and subsea disciplines.
He reaffirmed the company’s dedication to local content development, stressing that investing in people remains essential to building a sustainable energy industry.
In her remarks, a representative of LADOL underscored the importance of Nigerian Content to indigenous businesses, stating that without local content policies, LADOL would not have attained its current level of growth and development.
She added that the organisation remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen local capacity and prepare young Nigerians for rewarding careers within the industry.
Following a rigorous two-stage selection process, the 12 beneficiaries will undergo intensive training designed to equip them with the practical skills required to support supply base operations and enhance Nigeria’s local content capacity.
Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Mr. Olaniye Sodiq expressed gratitude to NCDMB, SNEPCo, LADOL, and the training partners for investing in their development.
He assured stakeholders that the beneficiaries were eager to learn and looked forward to making meaningful contributions to LADOL and the broader oil and gas industry upon completion of the programme.
