Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has led the management team of the Commission and the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, on an inspection of the ongoing Kaa–Ataba Bridge project in Rivers State.
The inspection, conducted on September 4, 2026, was aimed at assessing the level of completion, quality and pace of work on the landmark infrastructure project ahead of its planned commissioning in the coming months.
Ogbuku, who disclosed this in a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, said the inspection also provided an opportunity to identify and address outstanding issues that could affect the timely completion of the project.
He was accompanied by the NDDC Executive Director, Projects, Sir Victor Antai, PhD; Executive Director, Corporate Services, Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde; and other directors and senior officials of the Commission.
The Kaa–Ataba Bridge is among the major infrastructure projects being executed by the NDDC to improve connectivity and open up riverine communities in Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region.
According to Ogbuku, the project is designed to link Kaa and Ataba communities through an integrated network of roads and bridges, providing an important transportation corridor for the movement of people, agricultural produce, goods and services.
The project includes a 1,197-metre reinforced-concrete bridge supported by 67 piers and two abutments, with an overall width of 11 metres, comprising an eight-metre carriageway and 1.5-metre walkways on both sides.
Ogbuku expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of construction, describing the development as an important milestone in the Commission’s intervention in the Niger Delta.
The Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, also expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, noting the significant progress recorded since his previous visit to the project site about a year ago.
Momoh described the Kaa–Ataba Bridge as one of the longest bridges in the Niger Delta and a major infrastructure intervention capable of transforming the socio-economic fortunes of communities in the area.
He expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be pleased to personally commission the project upon its completion, describing it as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to developing the Niger Delta and delivering infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of citizens.
The Minister further commended the NDDC for the progress recorded on the project, saying it demonstrated that the Commission was taking its mandate seriously.
In his words, “The NDDC has done very well, and I have good news to transmit to Mr. President when I get back to Abuja.”
Ogbuku said the progress recorded on the project aligned with the NDDC’s commitment to supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
He noted that the Commission’s intervention went beyond the construction of physical infrastructure, stressing that its objective was to create opportunities, connect communities and contribute to changing the development narrative of the Niger Delta.
He described the Kaa–Ataba Bridge as “far more than a major engineering feat,” saying it represents a strategic investment in connectivity, economic opportunity and the long-term transformation of the region.
