In a statement released to newsmen on Wednesday, Bagou reiterated the need to realign with the ruling party at both the state and federal levels in order to contribute more effectively to Nigeria’s political development.

He emphasized his commitment to progressive governance, national unity, and grassroots development, noting that the APC, as the ruling party, provides a stronger platform to actualize these goals.

Bagou confirmed that his decision to leave the NDC was based on personal considerations, which he described as necessary at this stage of his career and public life. He added that the move followed a period of deep reflection and consultation with close associates and stakeholders.

“I have taken this decision after careful thought and for personal reasons that I believe are in my best interest at this time,” he stated.

Bagou also apologized to Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for what he described as a hasty earlier decision made without proper consideration of their relationship.

“As a fast-growing young politician, I have thought it wise not to abandon well-established relationships in government, where I have served in different capacities—as Technical Assistant (TA) and Senior Special Assistant (SSA),” he said.

Although Bagou did not outline any immediate political ambitions, his defection is seen by some analysts as a strategic repositioning ahead of future political engagements.

He described the APC as a platform through which he hopes to continue contributing to national development and the strengthening of democratic institutions.

Meanwhile, stakeholders of the APC in Bayelsa have reportedly welcomed Bagou’s decision, describing it as a positive addition to the party’s growing grassroots base and support structure in the state.

Political observers note that such defections—especially involving media personalities and grassroots influencers—can have ripple effects within local political dynamics.
