Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei, has called on Bayelsans to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ambaiowei made the call while receiving members of the G4 Movement for Coronation, a socio-political support group that visited him to present its structure, vision and objectives and express solidarity with his re-election bid.
Speaking on the policies of the Federal Government, the lawmaker said the administration of President Tinubu was working to reposition the Nigerian economy and implement some of the recommendations associated with the 2014/2015 National Constitutional Conference.
He specifically cited discussions around state police, devolution of responsibilities and greater resource control by the states.
“Our party, let me tell you, from every look of things, our party is working hard to sustain the economy of this country, particularly, the policies of Mr. President is towards what came out of the 2015 Confab.”
Ambaiowei also expressed the expectation that further constitutional and governance reforms could take place if President Tinubu secures a second term.
“I won’t be surprised, in his second tenure, regional government will be highly enforced, so that we too will also enjoy our oil.”
The lawmaker argued that Bayelsa State possesses significant natural resources and potential for development, particularly given its riverine environment.
He acknowledged the economic difficulties being experienced by Nigerians, attributing some of the challenges to efforts to restructure the national economy.
“Anything that will be good, would always have hurdles. Those hurdles are also being felt by us, your representatives because it is not easy.”
Ambaiowei Commends Support Groups
Responding to the presentation by the G4 Movement, Ambaiowei commended its members for the sacrifices involved in supporting political candidates and campaigns.
He said political support was not necessarily measured only in financial contributions, but could also involve time, personal resources and other forms of commitment.
The lawmaker cited the example of a young supporter who, according to him, recently contributed ₦1 million to assist with expenses associated with receiving campaign visitors.
“Sacrifice is not all about giving you money but using whatever strength, whatever thing you have, to promote whatever anybody you believe in is doing.”
He thanked the group for its activities and said its grassroots mobilisation efforts had become noticeable in some communities.
G4 Movement Outlines Political Objectives
Earlier, the G4 Movement for Coronation, led by Mr. Ebimobowei “Ebiskele” Oruh, presented its structure, vision and political objectives to Ambaiowei.
The group said it was working toward the success of Senator Konbowei Benson for Senate, Hon. Engr. Rodney Ambaiowei for House of Representatives, and Dr. Coronation Tokpo for House of Assembly, who it identified as its principal political interests in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its spokesperson, Snr. Comr. Akpama Lawrence, expressed appreciation to Ambaiowei and Dr. Coronation Tokpo for their reception and support.
Akpama said the movement had resolved to mobilise grassroots participation and engage stakeholders across Southern Ijaw in support of the candidates.
Call for Peaceful Elections
Ambaiowei also used the occasion to call for peaceful conduct throughout the 2027 electoral process.
He recalled that previous elections in Southern Ijaw had, according to him, been associated with incidents of violence and loss of lives, but said no death was recorded during his own electoral process from the primaries through the campaigns and election.
“Whether we like it or not, we’re brothers. We don’t need violence in elections. If anybody dies in election, then me as a leader, how would I feel?”
He urged members of the movement and other political actors to remain prayerful and ensure that campaign activities and the election itself were conducted peacefully.
Ambaiowei also advised political supporters involved in election-day activities to remain vigilant and ensure that the electoral process was properly monitored.
He said preparations would intensify once the campaign timetable and structure were announced by the relevant party authorities.
The lawmaker further acknowledged the logistical challenges associated with political campaigns in the riverine communities of Southern Ijaw, noting that transportation by boat would be required to reach several communities.
He expressed appreciation to the G4 Movement for its commitment and urged its members to continue their activities as the 2027 elections approach.
The meeting brought together members and supporters of the movement as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
